Who we are

Low Hill Garden is a biointensive market garden operated by Tim and Stephanie Cupp in the Shenandoah Valley. We grow flowers and vegetables on a half acre, 8 miles from downtown Harrisonburg, VA.

Our flowers and vegetables are available through a weekly subscription program, at our Saturday morning farm stand, and at the Elkton Downtown Marketplace.

We “broke ground” in 2023 by opening garden plots in our family’s old hay field with various no-till methods (occlusion, broadforking, and several successive rounds of cover cropping and no-till termination). 2025 is our first year bringing our product to market and we are so excited to share the harvest with you!

How we grow

Our garden focuses on intensive vegetable and flower production by employing ecologically friendly methods to encourage soil health and biodiversity. Although we are not certified Organic or Naturally Grown, we do utilize many of the same techniques that underpin these certification bodies. Namely, we never use synthetic chemical amendments or spray applications, nor do we grow GMOs. We encourage healthy soil by managing our garden beds with no-till methods including broadforking, tilthing, and organic mulching. We manage pests and weeds mechanically with exclusion netting and manual cultivation. We are committed to upholding the ideals of the organic movement and are happy to talk with you about how we’re doing that.
